Melbourne Airport – Qantas and Virgin Terminals

Project:                 Melbourne Airport – Qantas and Virgin Terminals

Client:                   Bill Jacobs Constructions

Consultant:           Matrix Engineering

Extensions are by definition complex and this project was no exception. To add the it’s complexity, the design specified curved rafters extending from the upper airport concourse to the lower bus shelter areas at Terminal T1 (Qantas) and Terminal T3 (Virgin), leaving no room for error. Moreover, the construction involved carrying out all site works during night time with paramount consideration given to the strict OH&S rules observed by the Airport Authority, all whilst the two terminals remained open and operational.

With a known reputation in such complex extension projects, PacifiCO Structural Steel were awarded the project and set to work to co-ordinate the installation of the 12t of structural steel and 200m of purlins together with Bill Jacobs Constructions, Spotless and the Airport Authority, which ensured a successful project to all involved.
